Research work on the special road bus project is ongoing

With the financing of the Asian Development Bank, preliminary design work is being carried out for the introduction of a new type of high-capacity public transport special road bus (BRT) project in Ulaanbaatar.

The project is planned in a citizen-friendly manner, public meetings are organized in stages, and research work is ongoing. After the research is completed and the financing is fully decided, the feasibility study will be developed and the construction contractor will be selected. These works will be completed in 2025, and construction will begin in March 2026.

In the framework of the project, it is planned to be built with 20 stops along the 12.7 km roads that will be constructed from Ard Ayush Avenue to Ikh Khuree Street.

Special road buses have doors on both sides so people can get off and board from either side. The floor of the bus and the parking lot are at the same level, so it is advantageous for people with special needs, the elderly, and people with bicycles to get on and off easily. It is estimated that by deciding on a special road bus, the peak hour speed of Ulaanbaatar will increase 4-5 times, and the average speed will be 20-25 km/h.
